Dear Chapel Hill Citizens:

I began my campaign for Mayor of Chapel Hill because I believed that I am the best candidate and best represent the additional moderate voice that is needed to bring balance to our Town Council and the right person to build an effective governing team for our town.

During my campaign, it has become apparent that with more than one moderate in the race, neither of us can win. With this in mind, and for the good of Chapel Hill, I decided to step out of the race for Mayor.

I still believe that Matt Czajkowski cannot advance any agenda without the help of additional moderate voices on the Town Council. So, if you wish to bring additional moderate voices to the town council, I suggest you look closely at the town council candidates, their backgrounds, experience, and accomplishments, and choose wisely.

Unfortunately, due to timing, my name will remain on the ballot, and I view any vote for me as a protest vote of what our Town Council has been doing. Of course, if enough people vote for me it will send a clear message to the incumbents and the political establishment of Chapel Hill; that voters have no confidence in them and their policies.

In recent days, it has been pointed out to me by various media sources that if I accumulate enough votes I would be elected Mayor. While I am not actively running a campaign, if for some reason I receive enough votes to win I would then have to evaluate the call of the voters to serve.

I appreciate the support, advice and kind words I have received throughout my campaign and especially in the last few weeks.

I would like to thank my family, all of my supporters, the people I have had the pleasure of meeting and my fellow candidates.

Please remember to vote on election day, Tuesday, November 3, 2009, so that your vote remains anonymous. Note that during early voting (before November 3, 2009) your ballot will be numbered and can be traced back to your name, so that your vote is not anonymous during early voting.

Best wishes to all. God bless you all.

Kevin
